I totally agree with this general statement.
Reasons:

Only exception: Some SATA connected optical drives don't like to be run run in AHCI mode. So it may be a good idea to connect the DVD player/burner to a separate (non-Intel) SATA Controller and - if such option is applicable - set it to IDE mode.

Usually yes, but not generally. It depends on your specific hardware configuration and on what you are mainly doing with your PC/laptop.
That is why I recommend to find the best choice yourself by testing different SATA/NVMe drivers. It is very easy, takes only a few minutes and gives you security for having chosen the best option.
Tip: Don't forget to set a "Restore Point" before starting the comparison tests. This way you can recover your present configuration at any time (even in case of a not bootable system).
