📣INFORMATION

Hello everyone,
I'm once again asking for your generosity, as S-D is facing retirement by the end of July 2025 due to lack of income.
Thank you all for your generosity; even a little means a lot and allows me to continue my passion with you.
Thank you again, a thousand times over.😉

Here's what i ended up doing with all of my switches SFP+ Cages

Most dont need it but the cooler the better

12 Port 10 Gbps Switch 8 10 Gbps RJ45 + 4 SFP+ (doesnt really need it as it uses optics + dac on SFP+ and has a fan but cant do any harm)
2 x NVME Heatsink's attached with thermal tape

8 Port 2.5 Gbps Switch + 1 SFP+
Cant Find any pictures with it finished

Here's me in the middle of doing it
Ended up trimming the heatsink slightly to go around the cap
thermal tape 1 nvme heatsink onto cage then nvme thermal pad
then another nvme heatsink ontop then nvme thermal pad sunk into top of case

8 Port 2.5 Gbps Switch + 2 SFP+
Cant find any Photo's of this one when i did it
but i did the same as i did on the 8+1

4 Port 2.5 Gbps + 2 SFP+
1 x Nvme Heatsink thermal taped across both Cages
Nvme thermal pad then another Nvme Heatsink + Thermal Pad ontop
sandwiched into the top of the case
also a couple of smaller heatsink's i had going spare

This is the Switch that has the hot SFP+ to RJ45 Module in it
it pulls heat out of the module straight into the shell of the switch
and is stable now

it also has LC LC SM 10G Optics back to the 10 Gbps Switch that runs cool though

the heatsink's are literally press fit into the case as its closed up

Oh with regards to SFP+ RJ45 10G Modules reported temp
MY 80M one that's only warm to the touch reports 10+ degrees higher temps
than my Aquantia 30M module that runs like a furnace that you cant hold your hand on for more than a few seconds

so take any reported temps with a pinch of salt and actually touch them

Looks like some good modifications you have done!

Last night I was letting the Marvell AQC113CS 10G NIC run at 2.5Gbps along with an iperf3 test while I was sleeping.
When I woke up and checked the logs, it had 0 disconnects the whole time.
Then I forced it to negotiate 5Gbps and started another iperf test. This test was flawless for the 30 minutes I let it run.
Then I tried to let it negotiate to 10Gbps again and within 20 seconds the connection started dropping over and over again.
Forcing it back to 5Gbps immediately fixed the loss issue again.

Tonight I received the cheap QSFPTEK module I mentioned in my last post.
After plugging it in it immediately looked like it solved my problem!
I let it run a full speed 10Gbps iperf test while I went to the gym, and when I came back over an hour later, there was still no disconnects.
Now I've been using it the whole night now and there has been no issues!

So the SFP+ transceiver module was the problem the whole time for me!

My Mikrotik switch cannot read the temperature of this new QSFPTEK module, unlike the Wiitek module, which it could.
The new QSFPTEK module definitely feels warmer to the touch than the Wiitek module did, but not unsafely hot.
I don't believe heat was ever the issue for me.
Either there was some incompatibilities with the Wiitek module and my equipment or else I just received a bugged unit that can't run 10G speeds.

Of course I'm happy that I resolved my issue, but I just feel kind of bummed about spending so much time messing with the firmware and drivers only for the solution to be totally unrelated in the end.
All of these hundreds of Reddit and ASUS forums posts I trawled made me certain that the fault could only be with chip or the firmware and drivers of the AQC113CS.

To future readers:
Make sure you test all your cables and components, it might not only be the Marvell AQC113's fault.
