Curiously, the newest revision of this Jeyi 2230 enclosure  has a RTL9210CN chip that is not recognized my MPTool or listed in this topic.

The older model has a RTL9210B with 1.32.49 firmware. I'll keep it at that for now, because I don't want to remove the meticulously placed NVME from it again...

The older model has a lower placed USB-C connector and the lanyard holes are in the middle instead of a corner. The config dump:
Code:

Ai says

Efficiency Focus: The CN revision is an updated SKU from Realtek. It reduces active operational power consumption by up to 42% and runs cooler than original iterations

when querying forther it said this but ofc could be slop=16pxThe transition from the =16px=16px=16px Realtek RTL9210B to the newer =16px=16pxRTL9210CN revision represents an engineering refinement focused on physical board integration, thermal optimization, and peripheral support rather than core protocol bandwidth. The structural and architectural differences break down as follows:1. Unified Device Support StrategyThe older =16px=16pxRTL9210B was specifically engineered as a dual-protocol fallback controller. It contained an integrated SATA controller alongside its PCIe block, switching modes automatically via mechanical pin sensing to accept both older M.2 SATA drives and newer NVMe drives. url=https://www.realtek.com/Product/Index?id=4075]1[/url], [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/1lho6ye/difference_between_these_nvme_enclosures/]2[/urlThe =16px=16pxRTL9210CN drops the legacy SATA layer entirely. It optimizes purely for the NVMe protocol over PCIe Gen3 x2. This streamlining eliminates unnecessary circuit logic, freeing up physical die space and trimming passive hardware overhead. url=https://www.realtek.com/Product/Index?id=4075]1[/url2. Form Factor and Packaging FootprintThe "CN" designation indicates Realtek’s specialized packaging change for ultra-compact boards:
  • =16px=16px=16pxRTL9210B: Uses a broader, standardized 68-pin QFN green package layout meant to sit on large 2280-size drive PCBs.
  • =16px=16px=16pxRTL9210CN: Employs a dense, reduced pin-count footprint layout specifically optimized for small square or dongle-style enclosures (such as those for short 2230 size drives). It removes peripheral hardware lines that are unused in small-form-factor storage designs. [, 2 ]
3. Idle Thermal Dissipation and Aggressive Sleep StatesA major flaw of the standard RTL9210 series was its tendency to heat up severely during inactive periods or large sequential transfers, causing immediate connection drops.
=16pxWhile the =16pxRTL9210B introduced basic PCIe L1 power-saving states, the =16px=16pxRTL9210CN revises the internal power management unit (PMU). It enforces more aggressive 10-minute automated sleep timeouts and deeply managed operating thresholds directly at the silicon level. This change prevents the chip from drawing excess power when idle, keeping the small aluminum housing cooler to avoid thermal disconnect loops. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]4. Direct Type-C Native IntegrationThe physical interface implementation has shifted:
  • =16pxThe =16px=16pxRTL9210B relied heavily on external multiplexer chips or physical circuit routing traces on the enclosure's PCB to negotiate data reversing and flip orientation for USB Type-C connections.
  • =16pxThe =16px=16pxRTL9210CN natively builds the Type-C logic handling directly into the silicon layout. This design simplifies the board layout, requiring fewer supporting components on the purple PCB and reducing potential points of signal degradation. []
If you are following the community discussions regarding this hardware, let me know:
  • =16pxDo you want to check if the enclosure's current firmware configuration supports custom LED behaviors?
  • =16pxAre you curious about how operating system kernel stability differs between these two chipsets?

not recognized my MPTool

Try MPTool for RTL9220. By all indications, RTL9210CN is stripped down RTL9220.
